Birthed from a Dream for a Better World for All
"What will it take to transform a city?" This was one of the most pressing questions the founding leaders of Doxa Deo began grappling with in the mid-1990s, within the context of Pretoria, the capital city of South Africa. It was not an abstract exercise, but a deeply practical and faith-rooted inquiry driven by a desire to see people, communities and systems renewed.
Out of this reflection, a city-transformation movement emerged. Over time the movement expanded beyond its original context, growing into a global initiative engaging eight differentiating spheres of society through four interrelated dimensions of health: healthy spirituality, healthy productivity, healthy lifestyle and healthy mindset.
As the movement matured, a clear twofold need became apparent. First, existing leaders required deeper equipping to navigate increasing complexity. Second, there was a growing responsibility to intentionally raise a future generation of leaders. In response, the City Changers Institute (CCI) was established in 2008.

During its first decade,CCI’s work was largely vocational in nature. The Institute facilitated a distinctive blend of accredited academic qualifications and practical, experience-based training, aimed at the holistic development of each individual. This approach was further strengthened through the intentional integration of worldview formation, leadership development and mentoring and coaching processes.
By 2012, insights gained through vocational initiatives made it clear that leadership formation needed to extend beyond individual development toward broader organisational and societal impact. Strong relationships were established with institutions in the United States, most notably Regent University, through which master's and doctoral qualifications in Organisational Leadership, Business Administration and Strategic Foresight were hosted. Several members of the CCI team completed doctoral research in Organisational Leadership (Ph.D.) and Strategic Leadership (DSL).
Alongside these academic developments, CCI partnered with Xpand, a leadership consulting organisation based in northern Europe. This partnership introduced future-fit models o fapplied leadership and deepened CCI’s understanding of organisational health and personal wellbeing. Drawing insight from some of the world’s most liveable societies, this engagement helped align academic rigour with lived wisdom, cultural sensitivity and worldview diversity. Flowing from this same conviction, Lifework Leadership Pretoria was launched in 2015. It emerged strengthening the link between belief, leadership responsibility and everyday vocational life.
These converging streams of movement, faith, scholarship and applied leadership led to the establishment of CCI Professional in 2016 as a Business in Ministry (BiM). While rooted in South Africa, one of the most diverse nations in the world, CCI Professional was shaped from the outset with a global orientation, focused on translating leadership formation into sustainable organisational and societal impact.
That academic and leadership formation legacy continues today. CCI currently hosts the Master of Leadership in partnership with Alphacrucis University College (Australia), building on decades of leadership development through a programme that integrates rigorous academic standards with applied values-driven formation for leaders navigating complexity.
